Barnsley
and PNE .
Andy Crosby has shown in the
last two games how dangerous he can be at both ends
of the pitch, scoring with a header from a set piece
against Preston and then gifting Preston a free
kick ,which allowed them to score from a set and
against Barnsley kicking the ball into his own net
via Williams backside and then making a powder
puff challenge against Barnsley which allowed their
striker a free run on Murphy's goal.
The
Barnsley game is best forgotten whereas the Preston
one was memorable although mainly through endeavor
,than silky football, Andy Crosby opened the
scoring with a headed goal from a Scunthorpe
United corner although ,Paterson appeared to be
claiming it.
Preston's
equalizer was disappointing ,Crosby lost a
challenge out wide and then attempted a rugby tackle
which failed so just hacked the Preston player down
in a dangerous position, their dead balls had proved
to be dangerous all night and this unnecessary challenge
left us in danger ,another great dead ball from
Preston saw their tall defender Youl Mawene head
in an easy goal for him. Cliff Byrne was superb
again and along with Paterson was MOM for me.
Scunthorpe's
second came from Hayes , Paterson held the ball
up well and passed it into Hayes who ran into the
box and slotted it past the PNE keeper, you could
see he was delighted and so were his team mates.
The
other big talking point of the game was the sending
off of Preston's Andrew Carroll he fouled
and got in a tangle with Andy Butler ,appearing
to kick out into Butler's stomach, after consulting
his linesmen The referee gave him a straight red
card.
Both
keepers made fine saves in an exciting game but,
the pick must have been Murphy who saved a penalty
after Hurst had brought down Billy Jones, Kevin
Nicholls placed his penalty low to the right and
Murhy saved it brilliantly.
In
summary a game where Preston's slicker midfield
was not enough to beat the endeavor of SUFC's Paterson,
Byrne and Hayes who all caused Preston problems
